During an interview at the Sony Investors meeting in Tokyo Japan, Sony President and CEO John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera mentioned that the PS4 is entering it’s final stage and more interestingly is considering “various options around the PS Vita.”
Just last week we found out that production of physical game releases for VITA would be coming to an end early next year. Adding to that a few months back Sony announced that it will stop including PS3 and VITA titles in their monthly Playstation Plus game offerings. So until this recent interview all signs were finally pointing at the final nail on the coffin being put on the VITA.
However in the same interview Kodera said “In my opinion, rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it’s necessary to continue thinking of it (portable gaming) as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable.”
So this is sounding more and more like Sony is considering if not a Nintendo Switch clone, at the very least making the VITA an included accessory to the PS4.
This is something Sony hinted at a few years back that it was a companion device for the PS4. Adding it via SKU so you get both the PS4 console and VITA handheld has only been a pipe dream, but that might change soon.
